When viewers engage with Ebony G. Patterson’s work, they cannot help but be confronted with a unique artistic experience. The figures in her work are rendered in a way that makes them visceral yet truly unforgettable as they move across time and space. Filled with colour and allegory, the Jamaican artist creates work that is a visual veneration of the “Black body”. Patterson’s works seek to interrogate issues of violence, masculinity, “bling”, visibility and invisibility within the post-colonial Caribbean context. Known for creating drawings, tapestries, videos, sculptures, and installations that are layered with flowers, glitter, lace, and intricate beading, Patterson presents a dialogue with the creative splendour as she platforms spaces of beauty, burial, and mourning.
