Kris Lemsalu & Kyp Malone have a collaborative and collective practice referencing fragments of cultures that shift over their multiple disciplines, ranging from ceramics and sculpture to moving image and sound. They create cosmologies of auto-fiction, storytelling, and reality that both blur the lines of living life and illuminate translocal traditions from across the globe.
Their installations often give space to osmosis as a strategy allowing the liminal spirits and animal kingdom to permeate the human world – questioning what happens when Nature becomes sentient as an artificial entity. Combining these foundations of myth-making, as a duo they often create site-specific works that are not immediately apparent in this surreal landscape. For ECLIPSE they looked at the socio-political results of communities that are often unseen or seen through the masks of their own making and also through a wider Greek lens. The work expresses vulnerability, power, empowerment, and the cultural rituals of one’s own narrative making.
