Nascent is an Exit Tech artistic production studio investigating alternative infrastructures at the intersection of art and technology. For AB7, the duo has created three different time zones under the name Temporal Secessionism, which comprise: Energy Time, a passage of time that is measured by blocks and transactions that take place in real time through the bitcoin economy; Healing Time, which is the time defined by a broken quartz crystal frequency (quartz being the traditional timekeeper); and finally Machine Time, which is based on three nodes that create a consensus time across the globe so servers can be synced to the millisecond no matter where you are. Each time is presented on a brutalist aluminium obelisk that is etched with smudged graffiti, meme stickers, and dead crypto stamps mostly sourced from their peer and fellow artist Johannes Wilke’s Instagram account, which is made up of collected crypto artefacts and relics from its heyday boom on the market.
Temporal Secessionism also displays texts composed by theorist and experimental writer Amy Ireland, which are released based on pattern recognition that correlates to the specific time zone. The fragments are non-linear, circular texts that offer a further sociopolitical reading of the three time processes. Over the course of AB7, the viewer can also be notified of these texts on WhatsApp, offering an alternative modus of understanding time and space throughout the duration of ECLIPSE.
