Omsk Social Club began to create intuitive gaming boards in 2019. These boards act both as interactive and artistic objects that can be viewed and as gateways into their conceptual practice of Real Game Play. For ECLIPSE, four new boards were created in collaboration with an intuitive gaming deck designed by Jonas Schoeneberg, which manifests his informational painting technique alongside Omsk’s revision of the traditional tarot archetypes that are the lead protagonists in this new series: The Hedonic Eye, The Universe 3.0, The Eclipsed Self, and The Avatar. Guiding each board is also a sound score produced by Happy New Tears that the viewer/player can listen to as they perform a rite of sonic perception through participation.
Omsk Social Club relates to these works as gateways that naturally presume a space of transition; yet perhaps the boards offer more of a crossroads than a simple choice to enter or not. As there are so many routes one can take with these boards, an infinite number of possibilities can be born or rejected across their faces. Choices have to be made; fears, facts, and fictions overlap; and, of course, one acknowledges that choosing one path immediately closes down another – so the work aims to ignite liminal zones, ambiguous threats, and potent transformations inside this hybrid of spiritus mundi terraforming.
